Making a Living in Comedy: Perspectives from the East Midlands
Venue: PETER Pizzeria - Violin Room
This session will explore how comedians make a living through comedy, drawing on the findings from Dr Claire Sedgwick’s project on the Cultural Economy of Comedy in the East Midlands. Whilst the COVID pandemic has brought issues of inequality and financial precarity into sharp focus, stand up comedy has always been a precarious industry, and one that is often harder to navigate for working class performers, people of colour, disabled people and women. In this session, Dr Sedgwick will chat to comedians from the region as they discuss their experiences.
