Renamed Sue Townsend Theatre, to honour the author’s legacy to the arts and to Leicester, this iconic city centre theatre is where Sue began her writing career working as a writer in residence. Since opening in 1963 the venue has previously been known as Phoenix Theatre, Phoenix Arts and Upper Brown Street and has a rich history in the performing arts with a stellar cast of leading British performers having appeared here. It is also a teaching space for Leicester College offering learners the unique opportunity to train in this incredible 250 capacity commercial theatre setting.
